Hi Adam,

Is your notebook still under warranty?

Hi David

Yep. It' s still under warranty, but i 've already sent it to hp, and they said that is had big temperatures, so they cleaned it inside, but they didn't replace and part or something, they said that graphics c. is OK.

Re: Problem with graphics card in Hp Pavilion dv7

Hi Adam,

I would suggest contacting HP again and say that the issue has not been resolved and that the graphics problem is still there - it's possible if the graphics chip was getting too hot in the past, that it has suffered some damage.

Hi David,

I don' t know, i told them that, but they said they did all the tests and only the 48 h. test for temperature wasn't passed... They said that graphics is the hp norm...

But i noticed 1 thing - when i am trying to record a film of that corrupt video, the program does not record distortion, when i m watching it everything looks OK! So it' s not a driver problem, because the program records video by dint of transferred information. ( At least i think that :smileytongue: )

Re: Problem with graphics card in Hp Pavilion dv7

Hi Adam,

Try connecting the notebook to an external display and then try one of your games to see if the issue is still there.

Re: Problem with graphics card in Hp Pavilion dv7

Hello DavidPK,

I have an HP pavilion DV notebook with GeForce 8600. When I start it up there are some green lights flashing up in the begining. Then the computer freezes right after the Windows logo. There's nothing but black screen.

Sometimes (When I'm Lucky) it loads up normally but it crashes later on. This happens usually when I try to start an application that needs better GPU performance.

It's the same when I try external monitor as well. Is this un issue with the GPU or motherboard or something else? Is it possible to get repaired or replace the parts?

Re: Problem with graphics card in Hp Pavilion dv7

@alpha_decay,

It certainly looks like the issue is with the Nvidia chip.  If you send this in to HP, they would replace the Motherboard ( the 8600 is physically soldered to the MB ) and the cost of this would probably be similar to that of a new notebook.

Another option you may want to consider is to send an enquiry to the person on the link below - although your particular Model is not mentioned, I believe the solution to be the same; it cant' hurt to check.
