My Presario CQ61 with Windows 7 installed is starting to show some signs of aging, it seems. Lately, I can't set the screen's brightness after coming back from sleepmode. I've tried updating the driver, but there aren't any updates from HP.
Any other tips?
EDIT: I just had a massive crash, even without a bsod! I tried a solution in another thread, to install a new version of Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family. I wanted to know if i had the latest version, so i clicked the link 'Do i have the latest version?'. A Java runtime environment thingy was downloaded, and just after i clicked 'install', the screen went all wonky and stripey and my computer went crash. I tried restarting several times, and when that didn't help, i inserted the recovery disk i made yesterday (!) and tried again. Still didn't work. So then i shut down, took out the battery and cable, so all power was out of the machine, and re-inserted the cable to start over and here i am.
I don't want to try this again, so I'm going to try to download the driver directly without checking first. If anyone has better tips, let me know!
EDIT2: My system doesn't meet the requirements.

This still isn't solved, even after sending it away for repair when my screen stopped working. They updated BIOS and drivers, and when that didn't work, they opened the notebook and re-inserted the screen's wires, which solved the black screen problem.
The screen has worked properly for more than a week now, but now the screen is back to being stuck at full brightness after waking up.
Still no one here who knows what might be the problem??
