Hi,
I'd like to run two 27" or 30" monitors off of the Envy 17 which would require a resolution of 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 respectively for each monitor.
In looking up the specs for the AMD 6850m, it turns out that the HDMI connection only supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1080 but the (non-existant) Dual-Link DVI supports 2560x1600 in addition to the mini DisplayPort supporting 2560x1600 as well. So in theory, the card itself can support 2x monitors @ 2560x1600.
However, of course, there are no DVI ports on the Envy 17.
My questions are:
- Can I support a resolution of 2560x1600 from the HDMI port?
- Do I need an active adapter to convert from HDMI to DVI or DisplayPort to get it to work?
- If not, do I need a passive HDMI -> DVI cable to make it work?
- Or will it work fine with an HDMI cable?
It would be great if anyone could test this with a 27" or 30" monitor and see if it works from the HDMI port.
Much appreciated.
- Chuck
