any idea the cause, and hopefully fix, for a red screen at start up for a laptop?

My computer said that it needed a new battery and two weeks later, starting a week ago, I got this red flickering color replacing what should be black on the screen.  I replaced the battery, but that didn't fix the screen.  Does anybody know how to fix the red?
