can't find amd hd radeon 6470m hd

i bought my HP Pavilion g7-1000sq 8 months ago. Last month i reinstalled my Windows (7 at 64bit) and i don't have the switchable graphics mode when i click right. Every time i try to install the driver from hp.com or amd.com it says "AMD catalyst cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on your computer.   the version of your adapter is not suported".

i have a intel graphic system and a AMD hd radeon 6470M.

Why can't i install or find the amd graphic system on my computer ?

Re: can't find amd hd radeon 6470m hd

Because all companies that produce laptops have some agreement with AMD about supporting drivers. So, you should first install the oldest AMD drivers for your laptop from HP support site (and only from it) then install newest AMD drivers for your laptop from HP support site. And remember, only from HP support site.

Re: can't find amd hd radeon 6470m hd

[ Edited ]

I've posted this in other HP forums but not to this extent:

I bought a used G7-1174ca. I was having the same problems. I reinstalled windows 7 x64 because I bought the machine used and wanted to. Then I installed the "AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver 2011-10-24 , Version:8.882.2.0". from HP. It installs both the Intel and AMD/ATI Radeon drivers. Everything worked as it should since they are compatible. For testing I created a restore point (I always turn off System Restore since if you get a virus that's the first place it goes anyway therefore useless unless testing or upgrading purposes) then updated to the latest Intel HD3000 Graphics drivers and found switchable graphics stopped working. The right click option vanished. I then rolled back the Intel drivers and things were good again. I then updated to the latest 6470M drivers and switchable graphics still worked but control center wouldn't. I rolled back and everything is now as it should be.

As it is now, when I start up a new application it prompts me (check box enabled) whether I wish to use power saver or high performance mode and remembers my choices for future reference. That's the way it's supposed to work. Not through some BIOS setting to have it on 24x7. I can change the setting the next time I start the app if I wish.

Moral of story: DO NOT UPDATE your graphics drivers independently. I am certain all this crying and complaining, and I've seen a lot of it, is because people cannot leave well enough alone. They update to the latest Intel drivers which are not compatible with switchable graphics!!! PERIOD. DO NOT update unless HP issues a newer release of a combined package like the one above.

I would suggest deleting all graphics drivers and graphics devices through device manager, reboot and install the above mentioned HP version (or similar for your model) and stop screwing around. If it keeps grabbing previously installed drivers and won't let you upgrade/downgrade then you might have to do a Win7 reinstall.

If you go directly to the AMD site, they have a disclaimer on every downloadable driver "not being compatible with Switchable Graphics, Toshiba, Sony etc...".

Problem is, people trust Windows Update or some other Driver download software to install drivers for them automagically without any regard to special conciderations iI,ve seen it with DriverMax, Driver Genius, Driver Reviver  etc... not taking into account driver/device requirements, or in this case, switchable graphics. People wake up in the morning with AUTOUPDATE ON and say "I didn't change anything, but it stopped working all of a sudden?" Why people shoot themselves in the foot and blame it on HP is beyond me.

Turn off autoupdate and set it to "inform me and I'll decide".  Uncheck all  graphics updates!!! DO NOT INSTALL.

I see a lot of claims as it being a BIOS issue and they want a fix. From what I can tell by testing it is not BIOS. It is an incompatible driver issue. I've updated the BIOS from pre 52, 52, 62, and 63 and it works as it should on every one.. Drivers yes BIOS no.

Here is a link that I use for the drivers:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategoryos=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=51458...

I would like to hear a response positive or negative.
