Hi,
I have a HP Pavilion Entertainment PC tx1218au working on Windows Vista Home Premium and AMD processor and NVIDIA graphics. I have installed the latest updates for my laptop. The problem that I am currently facing started more than a year back and is still in continuity. I have uploaded photos on my laptop and on initial stages I was able to view and edit them with ease. Later on I was unable to view the photos. Even when I load any new photos from my camera I am not able to view them. The photos donot seem to be corrupt. I have tried attaching these photos to my email and opening the same on my desktop and viewing them from my desktop. I have this desktop which runs on Windows XP and Intel Processor. Whenever I try to open any of my photos with any of the software programs other than Quicktime, the laptop immediately stops working and it does some memory dumping and then my laptop starts again. When I open these photos with Quicktime, it gives me a message that my image is corrupt and it cannot open this file. Most of the photos appear as corrupt on Quicktime except for a select few which opens but in such a way that the photo is painted in color blue or showing some shadowy images. Because of this above problem I am not able to work with my photos on my laptop. This is a big setback for me. Please advice on the solution to this problem. Thanks.

Is the extension for your photos .jpg or jpeg?
Do you have your camera's software program installed?
Have you tried using Picasa3?
Try the above suggestions before attempting the following suggestion.
This issue might be caused by corrupt system files. Try running the following command, sfc \scannow, from within the search box . I do suggest creating the recovery disk set before you do that if you have not already done that.

Hi,
Thanks so much for your timely and kindly help. My photos have jpg extension. I have installed my camera Panasonic Lumix software but I dont use it. I had not installed Picasa on my laptop. So, I installed it now and the problem seems to have suddenly disappeared. Earlier on, I wasnt even able to open my Pictures folder with the "Large icons" thumbnail view. When I did so, my laptop used to have some memory dumping and restart. Now, after I have installed Picassa I am able to view my Pictures folder using "extra large icons" view. I am also able to view my photos using other software programs like Windows Gallery etc. But I am still unable to view the photos using Quicktime Picture Viewer. It gives me the same error message that the files are corrupt. Also, there is one more problem now. Though I am able to view the photos, I get messages in between that my Defender has stopped working and will be shut down, and my Windows Indexer has stopped working and will be shut down. The error is "APPCRASH".
Also, earlier on, a year back my computer suddenly stopped working and I had to reinstall my Windows Vista and recover my laptop. This was the time when I was using my laptop in a large way for photos using Windows software programs.
Do you recommend that I run the sfc\scannow operation?
I will also run the Windows programs like Movie Maker etc for my photos and let you know if there are any problems.

When I tried to run Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition I get the following error message.
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: ...\apps\Photoshop Album Starter Edition.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
When I press ok and try to close the program, I get the foll. error message
Description:
A problem caused this program to stop interacting with Windows.

Also, when I keep my Pictures Folder open I keep getting messages that says "this program needs to close and will be shut down", as mentioned in my earlier reply to you.. I think, later I got "Microsoft Diagnostic Tool" will be shut down.

Hi,
Take a read at the Microsoft Compatibility site. You might need to download a compatible version

I am sorry I didnot find a solution to the problem in Adobe Forums. I think this problem is faced by so many and no solution is found out as yet. I also think that this problem is not limited to a particular software program and that, that program is really not responsible for this problem to surface.
I tried using Windows Movie Maker. I wanted to make a slideshow(movie) of select photos and when I tried to publish(save) the same on my computer, I get the same error message that I got in Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition. The same is produced below.

I uninstalled Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition from my laptop, then restarted the computer and installed Adobe Photoshop back again. Now Adobe Photoshop works perfectly fine.
Windows Movie Maker also doesnot seem to give problems after I did the above.
Now I am very satisfied with the solution to the problem of mine. But I still need to work more on these photo software programs to be fully satisfied. Picasa 3 installation seems to have solved the problem. Not really understandable how and why. This just shows that the computer has a mind of its own. Something triggers a problem in it and it starts behaving in a strange way. Likewise something also triggers a solution to it and it starts behaving in a happy way. Computer is becoming more humane - unpredictable in its behaviour!
Recently I had a problem with my laptop, it was not able to read my cd drive. It became unaccessable. I thought I would have to replace my cd drive. Then I found a way out for this. I simply unplug my power plug from my laptop when not in use and plug it back when I use it. This simple plugging/unplugging of power plug wire has made my laptop access my cd drive without any problems. Computer gone nuts, isnt it? Now that I am able to view my photos again and able to work around with it, I will try to keep my power plug wire connected to the laptop always and see if it makes any difference.
Thanks a lot for your help. I will keep you posted if I encounter any problems. I feel in all likelihood the problem is solved.
