connecting HP pavilion dv2915nr to sony bravia tv- please help

I am trying to connect up the PC to the Sony Bravia TV (TV is less than 1 year old ) and am having trouble. Have tried using a VGA cable and our home wireless internet.  But without success. I have searched on the PC itself but I can find no reference to an option for  TV or external monitor so I think I probably need to download some more software or drivers. But am not computer savvy so have no clue which ones.

I ran the HP scan to check for updates and updated the computer. It’s the windows Vista 32 bit system. So now have run out of ideas and would very much appreciate your help

Hey suze19d,

Your notebook has an HDMI port which is the best choice for connecting that notebook to your TV. I'm not sure which exact TV model you have, but since it is so new it should have HDMI ports on it as well.

  1. While both the notebook and TV are turned on, connect an HDMI cable (can be purchased online or in store for a few dollars) to the HDMI port on the notebook, and to one of the HDMI ports on the TV.
  2. Make sure you know which HDMI port on the TV you are connected to (they should be numbered - "HDMI 1", "HDMI 2", etc...)
  3. Change your TV's input to the HDMI port that the notebook is connected to. (HDMI 2 for example)
  4. If you don't see anything on the TV or if it looks a little distorted, you'll have to change some settings on the PC.
  5. Right-click in an empty place on the desktop and click "Screen Resolution". There should be a "Detect" button you can click there, and then you should see 2 displays show up in the box -- one will be your TV, the other is the notebook's built in display.
  6. Use the settings in this menu to configure how you want it to look -- whether you want to use both the notebook's display AND the TV, or just the TV, etc.
  7. Make sure that the TV's resolution is set to 1920 x 1080 in this menu (or whatever your TV's native resolution is).
  8. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Many thanks for your very helpful reply-have a cable but it does not fit snugly into the TV port -so will go and buy another cable to see if can get a better connection cos at the moment the TV is not registering that it has anything plugged into the HDMI port.

Went and bought a new cable as one of the pins was broken on the original cable-once that was connected had no trouble with getting the picture to show up on the TV. However the sound is still playing thro the computer and there is no sound coming from the TV. Do you have any suggestions as to how to get the sound to play thro the TV please.

It's possible that the HDMI audio output is not set to be your default output. Here's how to change that:

  1. Make sure you exit all media-related programs (like Windows Media Player, iTunes, Pandora, etc.)
  2. Right-click on the small speaker icon next to the clock, usually in the bottom right of your screen.
  3. Click "Playback Devices" and a new window should appear with a list of audio output devices.
  4. One of these should have the word "HDMI" somewhere in it and/or have a picture of a TV. Right-click on that one and click "Set as Default Device".
  5. At this point, make sure the volume is turned up a bit on your TV, and try to open a media program and play something with sound. Once you're done, you'll want to switch the default playback device back to your notebook's speakers (in case it doesn't happen automatically).

Re: connecting HP pavilion dv2915nr to sony bravia tv- please help

Thanks for you help todate. The trouble is that when I click on playback devices I only get the following 2 choices: speakers and SPDIF Interface. Nothing mentions TV or HDMI. I would welcome any suggestions
