dv3 1075us VGA not staying in

Can anyone help me?

I do keynotes at conferences. So I chose this smaller HP Pavillion for the travel.

But when I use the VGA port to connect with a projector, I keep getting the bluescreen of death. Or it blinks intermittently.

The powerpoint will show up fine for a while but then blinks out or bluescreens. Not the most professional way to do keynotes!

I've been told the issue may be that the VGA port on the dv3 1075us doesn't have screws to secure it.

Is there an adaptor or any other work around?

Marc

PS I've got the ATI radeon graphics on this computer (the graphics that came with the laptop).

Re: dv3 1075us VGA not staying in

If the trouble is no screw to secure the vga connector then that is an issue with the projector cable. You can buy a vga extender which has a male vga on one end and a female on the other so that you plug one end of the extender into the projector and the other end into the laptop and maybe that vga port on the extender would hold better on the laptop. Are you setting the power properties to presentation mode? Have you updated the BIOS and the video driver? You can now install the latest ATI reference drivers and ATI control panel and you should set up the presentation using the video control panel not Windows video properties. My bet is on a video driver issue not a connection problem. Post back with any questions.

Re: dv3 1075us VGA not staying in

Thank you!

The blue screen warning said it was a driver issue.

Sorry for my cluelessness but:
(1) What power properties? I have the options "Higher Performance" "Balanced Power" and "Power Saver." I always choose "Higher Performance" in presentations.

(2) I tried looking for an updated driver on HP but didn't find an ATI one. And, quite frankly, I'm gun shy about downloading a wrong driver.

(3) Are bios updates done through the HP site?

Thanks again!
