dv4-2045dx will not play DVDs

Hi-

I have a brand-new (just purchased 1/24/10) HP Pavilion Entertainment dv4-2045dx laptop and it will not play DVDs.  When using HP Media Player, it tells me that it can't play the DVD and to reduce my screen resolution and try again... I set it on the lowest resolution and still get the same error message.  When using HP MediaSmart DVD, I can hear the audio, but not see the video.  Somewhere along my way in trial/error I got an error message that said my video card couldn't support the format, but that seems pretty ridiculous given that the laptop is an "Entertainment PC".

Does anyone know what this might be or how to fix it?  I am loathe to return the machine and go through all the pain of moving all my files and configuring a new computer yet again, but I'm not keeping a brand new computer that won't play DVDs!  Help???

Weird, it should be no problem running DVD, which DVD are you trying to watch? Hopefully not Blue ray one.

I have now tried several different DVDs (which will play in my desktop PC without a problem), none of which are Blu Ray.  All get the same result.
