dv6704nr - External Display Not Working - Win Vista 64-Bit Home Premium

I am having trouble getting external display working on my HP dv6704nr.

My computer has the following specs...

Display Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M

Processor: AMD Athlon (tm) 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-57

Ram: 2.00 GB, etc.

I currently have Windows Vista (64-Bit) Home Premium installed.

I actually just reinstalled the OS from the OEM disc recently.

I've upgraded to Vista's Service Pack 1.

All of my Display Adapter, etc. drivers are all up to date from your Support & Drivers Download Page.

I'm trying to use external display to transfer display to my TV. I've done this with my other HP Laptop running Windows Vista Business without any problems. Specifically I'm trying to use external display by connecting through the SVIDEO port and I can't get it to dual-monitor nor simply transfer display externally to the TV.

I am going to go out and purchase a new SVIDEO cord to replace the one I am using to eliminate the possibility of it being a bad cord.

Any other ideas?

Re: dv6704nr - External Display Not Working - Win Vista 64-Bit Home Premium

I figured it out. It wasn't working because I had the computer turned on and the TV turned on before I connected the TV to the computer using a standard SVIDEO cable.

However if I turned the computer off, left the TV on and connected the TV to the PC prior to booting it up the computer then recognized the TV after booting the PC up. Hope this helps anyone else that may run into this little problem.

Not too many people probably do external display through SVIDEO but if you do this worked for me.

Re: dv6704nr - External Display Not Working - Win Vista 64-Bit Home Premium

I have exactly the same problem with my dv6871 (Intel core 2 (5550), Windows Vista Home 32 bit, separate video card (GE Force something -- don't know off the top of my head and I am not in the vicinity of my comptuer right now)).  In my case it's definitely not the S-video cable -- I used it with my previous Dell computer (successfully) transferring video.  I have tried to go to two different TV's and also one DVR connected to a TV.  I have emailed HP support but they have not been able to help.  There are others in this forum who complain of similar problems.  I think there may be a problem with the video converter on some of these GE Force cards.  But, I can't be sure.  I have perused the Nvidia site to see if there's mention of it, but have not seen anything relevant.   When I go from VGA output to projector, it works. But this is not part of the same video conversion (in fact, there's no conversion here).  I have yet to try the HDMI output, which I have on my model.

Sorry -- I didn't see your 2nd post where you describe how you solved the problem.  I don't know if I tried that (I tried so many different things), but I'll follow your instructions to the letter to see if it solves my problem.  Thanks.
