OK to recap my experience:
Had the same problems as everyone else. Nvidia chip failure
DV9574EA, part number GT433EA#ABU
After a while I could no longer use the nvdia driver otherwise I would get BSOD.
Under the standard vga driver I could use my laptop but with pxel problems, blue dots all over the screen.
On idle, using standard vga driver, with left hand side of laptop overhanding desk in order to keep the fan clear, the GPU temp registed 72 deg celcius. No acceptable on idle
After lots of phoning, I succeded in getting a free repair even though my laptop isn't supposed to be affected by this problem: yeah right!!!
I have just received my laptop after repair and here are the temp results:
3Dstress test run for over an hour.
With laptop on desk = temp 76 deg
With laptop with left hand side overhanging desk to get better air flow = 66 deg.
Looks like my laptop is fixed. However I will be monitoring it
To all other DV9500 owners and other people who are being refused free repair. You are entitle to free repair as their is an obvious fault. I'm another case which proves it. Keep reporting it to HP and hopefully your repair will get honoured

Got the box in to ship back my laptop today, but I have to get the data off my hard drives first since the computer won't come on.
I believe that writing to the BBB was the only reason HP agreed to fix my laptop. A month and 9 days after I wrote my complaint, HP responded with my repair number that I had agreed to the day before. So, everyone, somewhere a couple pages back is a link to the BBB. File your complaint and you might get noticed.

I dont have Nvidia or dv9500 though but still i have the same problem so i am posting it here. where is the actual problem ?
is it with LCD or video chipset or ..?
how much will it costs ?

Wow so many ppl with same problem.
I should inform that changing motherboard will no fix the screen problem forever.
I changed my motherboard with a refurbished one for 150$ and well... after 2 weeks im having the same problem.
Worst part is that i have 2 more DV models with nvidia vga beeing used for video editing.

When the screen goes blank and will not reboot, I unplug everything then turn it on. I wait till battery is drained completely then plug it back in. It starts perfectly.
I'd suggest backing up all your data and call a local laptop repair guy that will fix properly for a hell of a lot than HP charges. Hope this helps!

Only used 4 times in year and a half, now I get Black Screen, all lights come up but nobody is home.
I have 2 9000 series 17 inches, in the box for more than a year, both used for not more than 20 hrs total.
These $1,400.00 notebooks died of boredom, not even fingerprints on them, what a shame.
My other 2 HP/Compaq F500, both died during the warranty period also, these they repaired and died again.
HP this is crap, shame on you, 100 pages of complaints and only 1 year recall warranty was issued, but
the notebooks continued to be manufactured with the same motherboards problems, ignoring the complaints.
If the company is not willing to take responsability for a defective product and poorly engineered, at least you should
offer a partial refund or a replacement at half today's cost. This will cost HP very little, would keep the customers,
and in the short run recover any losses.

i have windows xp and linux (openSUSE). After connecting to the * external monitor* i could see the start-up screen, grub (which is to select windows or linux),When login to linux, i can see every thing in linux. it works fine
(Hope this is much an LCD problem ). When login to windows i could see the boot screen (xp loading), but not any other thing
. but when login with safe mode i can see every thing.( from my knowlege default windows login uses 32 bit. safe mode uses less graphics than that. so in safe mode i see every thing
)
my question where is the actual problem (LCD or motherboard or video card . i have intel video card)?
i went for Hp autherised service center here India. As it is out of warranty, they are asking nearly 20000 INR(400 $) i got my laptop for 30000 INR (650$) . i returned back
p.s : i was using laptop like a desktop, it will be always on the table.it was on table when this happened too.

How is a problem with faulty parts that HP installed "Accidental Damage" and why should the consumer have to pay for an expensive warranty when the product should reasonably last far longer than our laptops did?
Ding ding!
