There are also some large threads about the nvidia/motherboard problems on "notebook PCs, pavilions, presario" (HP business support forums) . The thread "NVidia defective GPU's" is approaching 1000 replies!!
Having this thread near the top every day must be damaging for HP.

Add another victim to the list. The graphics card on my son's dv9500 just crapped out last week. He is in high school
and spent many hours working saving up for this laptop. If it doesn't get fixed for free (and fixed correctly), HP will lose
a young customer. The sad thing is that he wanted to get an Apple, but I talked him out of it saying that HP makes
good products and that the premium price for an Apple wasn't worth it at this time of his life.

Removing and reinstalling the battery worked for me the first time as well. That was two months ago. Now the graphics card is complete toast.

Hi
I have the same issue on my screen: I get vertical lines followed by/or (more usual) a black or white screen with grey blotches!
It's a DV9530EF bought in september 2007 (not under warranty)
The graphic card: Nvidia GeF 8400M GS
I called HP, they say I have to pay to repair the computer.
I hope HP will extend the warranty for this graphic card problem.

Filed my BBB Complaint today.
Tried to get onto HP's Customer Service System to get the order number and my account no longer exists.
Odd coincidence.
Fortunately for me, I never delete an email ![]()
Keep complaining folks, our voices are all we have at the moment.

Just keep yelling louder. I also have had a dv9700 with Nvidia 8600M GS. Laptop is rendered useless.
Errors: Video fails and and locks up computer. Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered, Error: Video hardware error: A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly. Problem signature Problem Event Name: LiveKernelEvent. I ran HP system restore but still have same problem. Now I can't even use the laptop. Video goes crazy and locks up the laptop.
I am afraid to give them $400 to replace with another lemon part. I have read a lot of internet postings and heard they are just replacing with same bad parts. Also I heard they are updating the BIOS so the fan runs constantly to try to correct the problem.
Just keep yelling louder. They need to listen. HP was the leader but if this is the way they treat thier customers then HP will be the looser. I am very sad. I feel like I lost a best friend. I looked up to HP and have had been buying and referring thier products for years, and years. I am soooo disappointed!!!!

Well, I'm sorry to say I broke down today and sent my laptop (still under warranty) back to HP for repair. I got tired of looking at my shiny, new, useless computer sitting on the corner of my desk. Total repair cost is $425.37, including tax. Ironically, they wouldn't accept the HP card for payment. But I did charge it to my Visa so I can challenge the charge. Besides, I think that before it's all over with, they'll have to reimburse those of us who actually had to pay for repairs.
It helps a lot to know that you all are fighting for justice in this matter, too.

Hi Folks I would like to unfortunatley join the club. Same old story DV9500 GS8600m etc etc.with pretty Burberry type lines everywhere. Just 16months old never raced or rallied and one carefull owner. Model not in extended warranty. I don't do gaming it was displaying a 'you tube' when video it crashed.
I am all up for a fight with a corporate industry, I have gone straight to United Kingdom HP complaints and am now logged in to there system (To be fair she did all she could, but there was a distinct 'Oh god not another one' type tone in her voice) Have I contacted South Africa for Tech support I was asked!. I said I think we all know what the issue is and a phone call to the tech support wont help. I was offered a new board for £261.00 but declined for obvious reasons.
Keep up the fight.
I have a stopwatch on my friends who got his 2 months after mine, should be interesting.

What I failed to mention in my previous post is that the $425.37 I am paying HP to repair or replace the monitor on my laptop (that's still under warranty) is the *last* money I will ever spend with them. I currently own three HP laptops, 2 HP printers, one HP handheld and one HP digital camera. I even have HP mousepads and flashdrives! Most of these are replacements for former HP products. I have been a good and loyal customer for many years. I never thought I would be treated like this!
But just so you know, while this laptop was unusable, I replaced it with a Toshiba Satellite P305D: 17" screen, 350G HD, 4G SDRAM, Supermulti DVD drive with Labelflash, Wireless N, Built in webcam, microphone, bluetooth, Face Recognition and a Fusion Finish for the grand total of ….......$699.00US! So far, it's wonderful! I think I've found the company I'll be spending my money with in the future.
