I posted another thread about my HDX18 having this same problem. I also have (hasn't worked in a year and a half) an HP DV9000 (model CNF7163XFN) that has this video problem. It just won't boot anymore. I tried the thing online that they suggest, where you rip the entire laptop apart and try and reflow the solder - that worked for about a month but then it stopped working again. I gave up on it at that point. It makes a nice paperweight.

I had same problem for laptop out of warranty. Brought to Staples for an assessment of problem and they said they believed that the on board video card had probably failed and estimated a repair cost of about $400 so I decided to get a new laptop, but still have lold one in case I can find a solution.

i had the same problem (BSD) with my dv3000. the hp authorised centre diagnosed this as a possible nvidia problem but the notebook works with generic (non-nvidia) drivers. my problem is that i can not use the recovery disc. after formatting 43% of the disc is says "0x4001100200001005. if this continues, pls contact hp support"
any clues?
and how does one get Genuine Windows without having to pay again?
thx

I have the same problem with my 9700. I tried calling hp to make good on it but was offered 400 dollars to repair. I dropped my laptop off at avonpcpitstop to repair it since it is local to me. I dropped it off today and just got a call from them saying it was fixed and I will receive it by fedex by friday. I'll report back as to the fix.

ok, i got my laptop back from avonpcpitstop who repaired my dv9700. I works great, runs cooler, and workes like new again. I used speedfan to check the temp before and after and these are the results:
before after the fix
cpu 64c 41c
hdo 46c 32c
temp 53c 34c
core 58c 25c
running much cooler now
now the con:
with the fan on high all the time it is a little bit louder than before. This is the only con I can find for now, the computer works like new again. I'll keep posting from time to time.

I have switched on my laptop today and it has a GREEN screen and when I go online - it all looks like one of those MAGICEYE puzzles - all out of focus..... We recently had an earthquake and I am wondering if its dust related??? I need to get a like for like quote for my insurance claim. One can anyone enlighten me as to the problem or tell me what the relevant model would be now please? URGENT ![]()

Hi,
daughter purchased a HP DV9500 laptop from PC world, 17" widescreen monitor total cost of laptop and few other things (£700 apprx) , she had only had it 13 months in total when it suddenly gave up the ghost, the cellophane was still attached to the screen and no one other than my daughter were allowed to use this laptop,.
daughter had come downstairs to make a cup of tea on her return there was a blank screen, thinking it had gone to sleep ode pressed any key ;;;nothing zilch kaputthe shut the computa down and rebooted it , would not reboot all it did was show me quick set up of blue lights across top row of keyboard, then went blank again, rang PC world tech guys to be told it was a month out of the statutory manufactures warranty of 12 months and as I had cancellec the extra warranty on it the first month as they were taking monies from me that did not need to be taken whilst manufacures warranty in operation, the monies would be just dead money , so was told that because I had cancelled the extra warranty it was not covered by them also. I did mention that HP were recalling specific batteries because of an overheating fault abnd possible risk of a FIRE HAZZRD.
WAS STILL TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT UNDER ANY WARRANTY AND BASICALLY WASHED THEIR HANDS OF ME £700 SPENT ON A COMPUTER TO BE TOLD 12 MNTHS LATER NOT OUR PROBLEM ( CUSTOMER SERVICE WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE??????????]
CHECK BATTERY RECALLL YES MINE had to be recalled , took it for a diagnostic check for home insurance claim and paid the £50 payment required to do the diagnostic, took it to a well known computer specialist /repair shop, and the following was the diagnosis;;
Laptop condition;
THIS LAPTOP IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION NO SIGNS OF ABUSE OR LIQUID DAMAGE AND COSMETICALLY IS IN AS NEW CONDITION, OVERALL CONDITION AS NEW PRISTINE CONDITION INSIDE AND OUT.
DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE;;
the laptop was stripped down and checked for signss of damage to the mltherboard a component known as the (INTERRUPT CONTROLLER] can qute clearly be seen to be damaged/ burnt on the motherboard , very close to where the jack plug connects.
This could certainly have been caused by a power surge or the battery fault due to the location of the fault.An automated hardware diagnostic using our own software could not be performed on the computaus as it was unable to turn on .
. This has resulted in us being unable to check any further fauty components eg; hard drive, cpu , and memory which do look in pristine condition with no visual signs of damage.
repair cost;;
To repair the laptop the motherboard would need to be repaced, and the cost to do so would be £394.00 plus vat which I have enclosed a breakdown to individual costing; New Replacement Motherboard £315.00 vat and our Labour Charge would be ;;; £79.00 + vat.
Please feel free to contact us again...
contacted hp with the findings which related to the faulty batteries and which minwe was a recall, onlty to be told that the diagnostic quite clearly stated that it COULD HAVE BEEN due to the battery fault therefore they would not be repairing or reimbursing me with the cost of repair, but if posted battery bac would get replacement to correct fault .. sorry but it was no longer a correctable fault as it had resulted in what HP stated could have happened if battery not changed """"" overheating possible fire hazzard". so much for customer satisfaction and values . this computer was no longer available as it was not being made anymore as a new one had taken its place, but leaves me no alternative than to purchase another computa definately not HP after the customer relation support NILNILNIL shown to myself .
I think everyone should boycott HP until they rectify what clearly is a manufactures fault, HP SHOULD BE MADE TO OWN UP TO THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES, we the public decided on this model for good reasons , obviously a fault occurred after sales and their cheapest option of remedying this was to offer the battery as the fault and recall/swap rather than admit to a fault on the computa and have to recall/swap all computers of that model with a completely new computa as the faulty ones were no longer available . ( I WONDER WHY THEY R NOT MAKING ANYMORE OF THIS MODEL]
