hp pavilion dv6 cpu amd a8 8g ram serial

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 notebook PC serial # 5CH138090X running Windows 7 64 bit with a AMD A8 CPU and 8 GB ram.

I have a Radeon HD 6620G Graphics card which will not work. When I boot up the PC it comes up with the message "No AMD graphics driver installed , or the AMD driver is not functioning properly. Please install the AMD driver appropriate for your AMD hardware". I have tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstall several times with no success, please advise!

Please use plain text.

Post the p/n (product name) for your notebook instead of the generic  "HP Pavilion dv6 notebook" as the specific description which  the product name gives is need for locating the correct drivers. The specific CPU name is also needed. When looking for information and drivers for a notebook always use specific information.

Re: hp pavilion dv6 cpu amd a8 8g ram serial

Hi,

it seems that you installed other drivers. What you should do:

  • go to Control Panel and uninstall ATI Catalyst
  • uninstall  your video drivers from Device manager. When you are asked to uninstall, check the delete drivers box too.
  • reboot the pc.

Download this driver http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54001-54500/sp54362.exe and run as it is.

Follow the instructions if any.

Reboot the pc.

Best regards,

Andrew

Re: hp pavilion dv6 cpu amd a8 8g ram serial

I am having the same problem.  I've tried both installs listed above and can't get anywhere.  If I look in Device Manager, I show the "AMD Radeon(TM) HD 6620G" with a yellow exclamation point and the error code in the properties is "Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problem. (Code 43)"  I've uninstalled the device, rebooted and it installs right away.  I've tried various versions of drivers and in the end, nothing has worked.  Been trying on various things I've used on a help desk and after about 9 hours of trying different things, I am ready to give up.  Any advice from anyone?  HP Support wants the user to run the restore disks, and I can't see why that would be necessary.  My thought is that it will fix it, but we'll be back in the same situation eventually.

Product Number is LK237AV

Re: hp pavilion dv6 cpu amd a8 8g ram serial

Hi estallin,

For your notebook I found this driver: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-98292-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...

Please follow the next steps:

  • go to Control Panel > Program and features > uninstall Catalyst. If asks for reboot, DO NOT REBOOT THE PC
  • go to Device Manager and right click on ATI Radeon (TM) HD 6620G, choose uninstall and also check "Delete the software drivers" box. Also, uninstall the Intel video card if any.
  • Reboot PC
  • Now, is very important, as soon as your boots, when the desktop appears, hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE together. Make this steps quick. Select Start Task Manager. Go to Processes tab, click on Image name tab to arrange in alphabetic order the processes. You should have 1 or 2 processes called Drvinst.exeRight click on both of them and select End Process. The video driver will not be installed.
  • Run the driver from the link. Follow the instructions. At the end reboot PC.

If still the Radeon HD 6620G has the yellow sign, download 7-Zip and install it. After, right click on sp54362.exe and choose Open archive. Enter the archive an go trough Packages > Drivers > Display folders and extract the W76A_INF folder to the Desktop.

Go to Device Manager and right click on Radeon 6620G and choose the Update Driver Software > Browse my computer for driver software > Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer then point to the W76A_INF folder.

If any questions, please post them

Andrew

Re: hp pavilion dv6 cpu amd a8 8g ram serial

Thanks for the help, Andrew - but it looks like we're still in the same place.  The driver version (both ATI) went from 8.832.0.0 04/01/11 to 8.861.1.200 07/05/11.  Still getting the same error at boot and the device still says that there is an error.  I took a look through the event logs and found the two events below, not sure if they have anything to do with this, but they are occuring around the same timeframe.

Re: hp pavilion dv6 cpu amd a8 8g ram serial

Hi Estallin,

The tow events are not related to video driver issue at first look.

The first event is about something was wrong during windows installation or more possible, during SP1 install

Microsoft describes the problem here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-US;2545227

The second one, is about a driver that is not installed on your computer and is related to USB device, maybe fingerprint reader or HP True Vision HD camera. You should have some yellow signs in Device Manager.

Can you select graphics from your BIOS?

These day I was a little bit busy, but I will try to work on you problem.

BR,

Andrew
