Open a problem ticket with HP support and they will guide you through the process.  Sounds like you may have a faulty webcam module?

yeah it sounds like it, today they asked me to do a system restore to fix it but it still didnt work so i guess i have to send it back.

This problem was solved a long time ago.  A faulty webcam module was replaced by HP and it works great now!

the model of my system is an     hp dv7-6135dx     product number- LW174UA      I got this computer last september and turned on my camera. It worked for a week or so and then turned really dark. It's been like that ever since.
