i have unwanted icons on my desktop but they will not delete

We have the pavilion g6 laptop. We have unwanted icons from something my daughter downloaded on our desktop and they will not delete.  They will also not allow us to drag them into the recycle bin.

Hi,

 

Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at f8 as you start to enter Windows Recovery Console.  Use the arrow keys to select Safe Mode and hit enter.  When windows has loaded in this mode, see if you can now delete the unwanted Desktop icons.

 

To exit Safe Mode, restart the notebook and Windows will boot normally.
