switchable graphics dynamic mode solution for g7 and similar models

I own pavilion g7 1100ec, but this should apply to any HP model with Intel HD + radeon cards, switchable graphics in dynamic mode, no option to choose fixed mode.

with the latest leshcat's drivers (http://leshcat.blogspot.com/ , Catalyst 12.3 WHQL UnifL for Switchable Graphics) the dynamic mode finally works, so if you don't mind a bit of dirty work, go ahead and install them (you should also install the latest bios, for g7 it's F.63), just remember to run all the cleanup stuff to wipe HP drivers from your system.

you can use http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDSystemMonitor.aspx utility to check the activity of your graphics card. I can play skyrim in full resolution (1600x900) on medium details, so I guess the dirty work was worth it.

or return your laptop, 'cause it's faulty and HP is never gonna do anything about it.

sir, i want to try this. but i have a question, do i need to uninstall my existing driver and install this? or i just need to install this even without removing my existing driver? thanks

you need to uninstall the existing drivers, that's the most painful part. the leshcat's installer includes an option to remove existing drivers, and then you need to download and install "driver sweeper" and run it in order to get rid of the remains of the old drivers. it's pain in the a** to do it, but unfortunatelly the new amd drivers, which support dynamic switchable graphics, can't be installed on top of the hp drivers
