Brand new Pavilion dv7, HP TrueVision HD webcam not detected

Just purchased my new Pavilion dv7, and when I run the You Cam software, it tells me my HP TrueVision HD webcam is not detected. I have tried at this for several days now, at one point when I was trying to fiddle with the You Cam settings, the webcam light turned on for aprox. 2 seconds and then went dead again, since then it won't even let me into the YouCam settings.

Right now I'm becoming more and more convinced that this is due to my laptop being assembled outside the US. Need a fix for this immediately.

Re: Brand new Pavilion dv7, HP TrueVision HD webcam not detected

Before you try to tweak anything in YouCam, make sure that the driver for the webcam is installed. You can check for it by going to the Control Panel-Device Manager (in Large Icons)-Sound,Video, and Game Controllers. If it's not there, then contact HP support. I found their online chat extremely helpful for reinstalling the driver. The process is far from straightforward. You won't be able to find the information on how to do this by looking online.

At least now, Skype sees the camera. But, all I get is a green screen. So now I have to contact HP again to find out how to fix that problem. :smileyhappy:

Howard

I have same laptop with same model number and exactly having same issue. I talked to HP Live Support but there were unable to guide me. Finally they said that please return back. Unfortunately, I live in Pakistan and ordered it from US, now I cann't return back to US. I have another laptop and its really working fine, but my new HP DV7 series absoultely disappoint me. Now I will never buy HP Laptop again.

Re: Brand new Pavilion dv7, HP TrueVision HD webcam not detected

Hi to everyone on this thread with a DV7 and the webcam issue,

Please do go ahead and list your model and product number as asked previously.

Don't put your serial number, that is private and for one-on-one support, not open forums.

I would like to ask you for one other piece of information please, and that is the "Vendor ID" of the Webcam on your specific unit.

If you already know where to get this this groovy, if not I'll hopefully make this easy to find for you.

1. Go to device Mgr, yes there are many ways but one is to type Device into the start search field and select Device Manager from the list.

2. Click on where it says "Imaging Devices" ( I'm hoping at this point it shows you "HP TrueVison HD)

3. Double click on "HP TrueVison HD" and you should the properties window with 3 tabs (general, driver & details)

4. Click on the "details" tab and look for the property dropdown menu, it probably says "Device Description" when you first go in.

5. Choose "Hardware ID's" and you will see a long string of Alphanumerics, just look for where it says VID_XXXX the 4 x's will in fact be a series of 4 numbers and letters, that is your vendor ID for this device :smileyhappy:

Here is a picture from the dv4 I have, you can see my Vendor ID is VID_174F

Thank you for helping us to help you.

Re: Brand new Pavilion dv7, HP TrueVision HD webcam not detected

I also have a problem with the Truevision HD webcam on my new dv7-LM726AV

Webcam: USB\VID_5986&PID_02AC&REV_0927&MI_00
USB\VID_5986&PID_02AC&MI_00

The thing is, in Youcam software it works well, not great but well.

But when I want to videochat on Yahoo or Skype, the webcam has poor quality and the image is with squares.

I've tried everything. It recognises it in device manager but with the driver from 2006.

I've tried all resolutions, everything.

What could be the problem?

I would appreciate if you help me.

Re: Brand new Pavilion dv7, HP TrueVision HD webcam not detected

I am having the exact same issue as georgeneata, My webcam has such poor quality--and I thought this is one of the features they were advertising on the brand new dv7 computers--especially since my line was just recently released. Love this computer but it sucks that my old one--from probably 7 years ago--had an amazing webcam. Boo! :smileysad:
