I have one monitor connected through the HDMI interface and I would like to have another one attached as well. Can I use the VGA port (or the other flat one -- I do not kjnow what it is called) and have the monitors work in concert?
(Windows Vista, Pavillion dv7 laptop)

Theoretically you should be able to connect as many monitors as you have video out ports.
Since I don't have your model, I can only speculate.
I know that this is true of desktop PC's (where the onboard video is not disabled by an add on card).
I believe the other HDMI-looking port is a display port.

Did anyone get this to work. I have connected the VGA and the HDMI to VGA converter and only can see two monitors. One is showing up on the screen resolution but no picture is available. It only has a black screen. I have a dv7 LW181UA#ABA Any suggestions?

I see that you are trying to set up two external monitors to your Pavilion. So the one screen works properly but the other screen is blank. What do you mean by “showing up on the screen resolution”? Which screen is not working the VGA or the HDMI to VGA one? Can I get your operating system as well, in case it becomes relevant later on.
