HP: When closing dialogue boxes in Win 7 sometimes parts of the boxes remain on screen over other program displays. Why?

That is usually an imperfection in the video driver. Click on the Support & Drivers section at the top of these forums and enter your exact model usually found on the bottom of your laptop. Then click on the driver downloads and enter your operating system. Download and install your video drivers.

Try running Memtest86+ on the Video Chip RAM, you may need to remove the notebook RAM so the test will find the VRAM.
Run the test overnight, MIN 12 Hrs.
Do your pc ram as well, @ 8GB (2x 4GB) you need at least 24 Hrs.
You CAN pull 1 RAM card, run the test, then swap them and run the test again, its easyer to trouble shoot what Ram card is giving you problems, if this is the case.
You are looking for any type of remnents left over on the Vchip.
You are looking for any type of RAM problem.
If Memtest 86+ does not wok with the VRAM, try running Mikelab Video Memory Stress Test

IF, there is a problem with the VRAM, you need another Mother Board, as the VRAM is solderd directl to it.
Is your notebook under warranty?

Thanks for the response. I tried the previous solution because there was an updated driver for my laptop available through HP support. So far, it's worked perfectly. This is a brand new HP Envy 17 with a AMD Radeon HD 7690 XT graphics card. Win 7 home premium 64-bit. Other than this little issue, it's awesome. Speed like I've never known....
The problem was a small remainder of dialogue boxes staying on the screen when a program closes. Like a corner or a side of the box. I could click the mouse and drag the pointer over the remaining box and it would 'wipe' the rest off the screen. But that's not how it's supposed to work! Duh....
If the issue comes back, I'll be dropping this on HP warranty support. I have some kind of upgraded support for two years. Good thing....
