HP Envy 17 to television connection

I had a HP Pavilion running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit that I could hook up to my Memorex TV model MLT3221 using a HDMI cable.

When I tried the same setup using my new HP Envy 17 with the same operating system, the tv screen gave a “not support” message.

Checking the Memorex user guide, it says to hook up a PC using a VGA cable, but the HP Envy has no VGA port.

Do I have any other options that will allow me to make the PC to TV connection?

Hi,

The only thing I can think off: HDMI version BUT it should be backward compatible. Do you know what is the HDMI version of your cable ?

Regards.

Re: HP Envy 17 to television connection

I'm afraid I don't.  I have one hdmi cable I purchased several months ago, and  second that was provided by Verizon when they hooked up my FIOS around the same time. I wasn't even aware that they were assigned version designations.

Re: HP Envy 17 to television connection

Hi,

Version of HDMI cable should be on the cable itself. Anyway, please try a small test: borrow a 1.3 or above HDMI cable and connect your Envy to your TV. Please also follow this (from page #42):

  http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02102005.pdf

also please try these steps:

   (a) Turn OFF both TV and laptop
   (b) Connect cable both ends
   (c) Turn ON the TV, If required use TV menu to accept signals from PC (laptop) even using HDMI1/2/3 ...
   (d) Turn ON the laptop, go to Display you should see TWO screens (1 and 2), select the TV
