My dad just sent me this laptop specified in the title and it says it has a Intel GMA 4500MHD. But in "DxDiag" my display is a Mobile Intel(R) 4 series express chipset family.

 

So, I went to update my drivers using this site. However, in the graphics portion, it doesn't have the Intel GMA 4500MHD, but 4 others, one being ATI Graphics. So I downloaded that, however, it did not switch with the Moble Intel express chipset.

 

I just don't really know how to update/change it to the proper thing. Please help me. Thanks.

Hi,

 

The graphics chip in your notebook is the Intel GMA 4500MHD - the DirectX diagnostics is just reporting the series that this chip belong to.

 

I assume you are using Windows Vista, so the correct driver you need is on the link below depending on the version of Vista you have.

 

Intel Driver - Vista 32bit

 

Intel Driver - Vista 64bit

Well, except for my screen going completly black when I restarted my computer with a command prompt sitting there for about 5 minutes . . . I don't see any difference. 

 

So I'm asuming that I have the Intel GMA 4500MHD is there, just the Intel Mobile family chip thing shows. But when I run a test on canyourunit.com, (because I like to game), for some games I want to play, it says my graphics card doesn't meet the requirements, because its the Moble Express Family chip. So, should I just ignore this, becuase the Intel GMA 4500MHD is actually there?

Hi,

If you want more detailes regarding the graphics chip - there is a good utility that you can download Here.

 

I guess the main problem you're going to face regarding games is that this is not a very powerful chip - some people add more system Ram to increase the ammount of shared memory available to the integrated graphics chip, but in reality this will have little or no impact.  If you want to game on a notebook, you really need to look for one that offers a discrete option from Nvidia or ATI.
