I've already returned one and the new one also has the defect. Both are HP dv6qt. Also HP support still pretends they dont understand the defect when i spoke with them over phone.
And the extreme part, one of tech support said i did an accidental damage.
Either go for another brand or live with this. Beware! Another brand may have another problem.

I just had Radish in India tell me that the HP Pavilion DV6-6140 DID NOT have the issue of the "Hp Logo" light bleeding through the screen (even though the post right above my last one says is does, he said the guy just typed in the wrong model number?) and to buy it OR they could build me some other model in 10 days for more money than the $649 I paid the first time?
I used to LOVE HP but the company is going down the drain and I googled about HP and found out they are trying to SELL their computer division. Sad since I am typing this on an HP PY-6110.
Anyone know if Toshiba or Dell or Leveno has a model that matches the HP Pavilion DV6-6140 that is not defective..
I am looking to buy something NOW!
Here is the post that says bnjroo has the same issue as I did on 3 HP Pavilion DV6-6135dx laptops on his HP DV6-6140 that HP Tech Support India Radish said had NO ISSUES? Well before I drive to Staples and buy this one does it also have the same HP Factory Recall and Defect?
from what i can tell it seems to be more of the nuisance category. has anyone in this thread had a problem with it when they're using the laptop?
this is a picture of my dv6-6140us lower right screen desktop and when the screen goes black just before standby/shutdown. i also noticed just now that my screensaver, which is mostly black, is not effected by the glow from the hp logo (LED Backlight is still on with the screensaver on)
i'm no authority, but this seems more of a nuisance, not a defect.

the model number i posted pictures of is most definitely the dv6-6140us model. i got it from Staples
i would say something about everything being made in china and we should buy american, but its all the same. they don't make ANYthing like they used to.

"was told by an HP tech support supervisor today after buying and exchanging 3 computers with the model number
HP Pavilion DV6-6135dx has a FACTORY DEFECT and today had a "RECALL ORDER" for all of these and that the one with no defects was the HP Pavilion DV6-6140?
The light is NOT supposed to shine through at all and could make the screen lose pixels and soon the entire screen could show white light later on."
So I checked in the HP support area for the dv6-6135dx and I did not see anything about a "Recall Order". Did you get the name of the supervisor that told you that the machine has a factory defect and is the subject of a "Recall Order"? People need to start logging times and dates and names of calls to support for this issue. If this is information is true then this needs followed up on. An HP support person needs to post in this thread with some more info.

The supervisors name was about 30 lettters long and said FAST and was in India, the HP Tech Rep was named Rajish and told me that the HP DV6-6140 did NOT have the issue of the light comming through the screen and the post I showed him over the phone saying the guy has an HP DV6-6140 had made a mistake in his post..
The nerve. This "Supervisor" also said the HP DV6-6140 had an updated AMD8 processor over the 3 I bought from Best Buy the DV6-6135dx and I checked the specs and they were the exact same in both. The only difference is One is Silver and One is Black.
They have NO Clue and just want to protect the HP Brand and sell you more computers is my guess.
Still looking for a decent laptop to replace my old HP DV-5020 from 2006 that was good way back then.
Any suggestions? I am looking at an ACER?
To add: HP needs to STOP putting that use less HP Logo Light on the lid of the laptops! It serves no purpose. Stop trying to copy a $2,500 Mac Book and spend more money on quality control rather than HP Logo Lights on the computer lids that bleed light through the screen and may cause "Future Problems" with the Led LCD Screen say 1 or 2 or 3 years down the road...after the warranty is long gone. Buyer Beware!

"must be mistaken" why would anyone call tech support unless they had a problem? just the mention of tech support fielded by sublet/outsourced call centers in india really makes me bristle.
my guess would be that they're considering the light bleed on the dm4/dv6 models 'normal'?
i would happily accept a method to disconnect/disable the hp logo if this is a problem. i bought this particular model for the case and specs, not stupid wannabee-mac illuminated logo, especially if the logo is going to lead to premature failure of said specifications.

Ok, I am 6 days and 4 returned HP Pavilion DV6-6135dx Laptopcomputers all with the same defect. Light bleed when the screen is black (startup/hibernate/sleep) and the screen appears to "wrinkle" or move as if someone is pushing on the lower right side of the screen when you FULLY open the laptop lid.
Best Buy 'Geek" squad expert named Robert here in Willow Grove PA said: "I have seen this same light bleed issue on Asus computers and some HP's. I don't belive that it would cause a problem in the future but if you wan to try Staples and buy the HP Pavilion DV6-6140 (silver case) I HIGHLY suggested you buy the 2 yr warranty with it for the $129.00 extra.
I retuned my 4th HP Pavilion DV6-6135dx to Best Buy today
Staples computer guy said the same thing above ...
BUT: HP Tech support Rajish in India said this is a FACTORY RECALL ISSUE and the 6135dx model is defective but it is not the case on the HP Pavilion DV6-6140us model. Which appears NOT to be correct as you have taken a picture of yours from Staples and it has the same issue.
I am at a crossroads of wether to TAKE A CHANCE on going to Staples and paying the $649.00 with the $50 rebate making in around $600 for the HP Pavilion DV6-6140us in silver and buying the 2 yr warranty from Staples for $129 so with Tax around $780.00 and taking a CHANCE with the HP Logo Light glaring thru the screen when its black and HOPE that it does not affect the display in the futre
OR I may just buy the Asus for $449.00 + tax

- AS an HP Pavilion DV6-6140us owner what is your Thoughts on this if I may be so kind to ask?
- Also if you have seen any other post anywhere that speaks about this issue would you post them in your reply as I have not seen others?
- Added: I just opened a CHAT window on HP support and typed this in and have not gotten anyone to respond to my question?
- Is the issue with the HP Logo Light which is on the back bottom right side of the HP DV6-6135dx compuer, that shows throught the front side of the screen on the bottom right corner, approximatley 3" high X 1.5 inches wide a RECALL issue that would affect the display (Lcd screen) OR any other part of the computer in the future OR is it just a "minor flaw or defect" in this Particular model (also has been reported in the DV6-6140us and also the DM4 models...just a Nusance or is it an issue to be concerned with that would warrant replacing the laptop with something else entirely different?
- Please be so kind as to be fully candid and honest on this issue. Thank You!

maybe check the acer support forums and see what they're dealing with? i've only had this dv6 since 08/08/11 so i might not be the best person to ask.
i think its fine, i'm going to keep it when the 89 days is up i'll have to see how things are i guess.

sorry, the meds are messing with my brain (i got a cold). HP's warranty is 1yr, i don't know why i was thinking 90 days, (i think refurbs are 90day warranty?)
i did spend the extra cash on the staples extension. a walk-in replacement laptop beats mail-in-and-wait service any day. staples also has the 14day no hassle return policy. (i swapped out my dm4 for the dv6 at 18 days because the manager was being nice)
i use my dv6 for:
watching and ripping DVDs
listening to and ripping CDs
Toyota vehicle diagnostic software
