How To Dedicate More Memory to Graphics?

Hi, I've just spent the past hour looking for a way to allocate more ram to my GPU.

In my setting it shows that only 320MB is dedicated to my Video Memory. But my card can handle 512Mb.

Is there any way to change this?

I've tried entering BIOS but there is no "Advanced" setting.

I've also tried to update my Bios, however every time I do, it says "Bios could not update" or something to that effect.

Even when looking up my computer model all I get is "Hp Pavillion Dv6 Notebook" without the model number. I can't even look up to see if there are any BIOS updates.

Re: How To Dedicate More Memory to Graphics?

Hi,

Can you post back with the following.

1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of the notebook - if this information is not on the Service Tag underneath the machine, boot into the bios menu and you should find the Product No. etc listed on the first tab.

2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 32bit ).

The Model Number only says: HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC

Product Number: WQ680UA#ABA

Running Windows 7 x64

Bios Version F.27

Graphics card as listed:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Radeon-HD-4250.29664.0.html

Says that the maxamount of memory is 512.

From Performance Information and Tools it shows:

Re: How To Dedicate More Memory to Graphics?

Hi,

According to the Product No. This is your Notebook.

Download and run GPU-Z - this application does not need to install and can simply be deleted after use if you wish.

Launch this application and post back with the value in the box next to 'Memory Size'.

Ah. Already had this downloaded :smileytongue:
Memory Size says 320MB...

>.< Now I'm just confused. It says my GPU can handle a Max of 512MB. But according to this it can only handle 320?

Re: How To Dedicate More Memory to Graphics?

Hi,

The reason you have 320Mb of dedicated ram on the adapter is because the HD 4250 comes in several varieties from 128Mb dedicated ram up to a maximum 512Mb.  Notebookcheck have tested the adapter with the maximum ammount of dedicated ram which is often the case for the adapters that they review.

Hi,

Yes, that's correct as the amount of dedicated ram is determined by the physical capacity of the chips on the adapter.

Re: How To Dedicate More Memory to Graphics?

Hi,

I've got the same dilemma.....I have ran the TechPowerUp scanner but the box next to my Memory Size says 0.  The dedicated memory is currently 64mb.......I'd like to increase this but don't know how....

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Darren
