Hi Nate,

 

I have an HP Pavilion dv6 too - I came across your post (and Viki's "help") because my contrast was all out of whack, too (way too bright). Adjusting the gamma did nothing - but then I unplugged the power cord from the laptop, waited a second, and plugged it back in, and voila! It's all good now. Not sure why...

 

There's also this thread on changing colour settings - I haven't tried what they said, but may come in handy...

I do the same too and still only brightness i see but the contrast i do not see it.

I too had a annoying contrast issue that seems to have been affecting other users. I have an HP Pavilion DV6, 6Gb RAM, with AMD Radeon 6620G/3520M APU.

 

Essentially - the screen contrast & colors were OK when plugged, but on battery it looked all washed out and just wansn't right.

 

I solved it by finding a little setting in the AMD Vision Engine Control Center (AMD video) settings. So I right-clicked on the desktop in Win7, selected the AMD Vision thingy, then, in the Power section, clicked PowerPlay, then unchecked the box marked Enable Vari-Bright. This immediately solved the problem and the contrast is the same now on battery or power.

YOU are a savior!!! I couldn't even see the "cherry blossom" background of my gmail with that enabled. This is fantastic!

But honestly, what is the point of that option? Just makes things invisible.
