The features list on HP web site says that this notebook has a touch screen, but from the first time I booted it up (new out of the box), it doesn't appear to work.  I have run Windows Update and installed all security and optional updates.  I have also installed all video updates from the HP support page.  What else can I do?  Does this have touch screen or not?  It had Windows 8.1 pre-installed.  Thanks!

Last night I performed the full reset back to factory settings...erasing all files and reinstalling Windows 8.1.  It took several hours.  This did not enable touch screen functionality.  I also tried pressing F2 at boot-up and running the diagnostics on just the touch screen.  It failed and gave me an error code.  Since the computer is still under warranty (I haven't owned it for even a week yet), I talked to HP tech support over live chat and provided him with the error code.  He said that it needs to be mailed to HP for service.  Since I live on a U.S. military base, he told me that I have to call their military sales number.  When I called them, they were closed.  So I'm giving up and am going to try to return it to the base exchange where I bought it.  Thanks for trying to help me solve this.  I guess it's just DOA.

It's not advisable installing the optional windows updates as can make some things stop working. I would restore the pc just as it came from the store. Then check how well it works everything, and than I would update only what really needed. After the correct windows updates? I would check HP drivers (updating only if something doesn't work fine).

 

The PC comes with windows 8 or windows 8.1? How good is that model? Is it so good as the HP omni 10 or the Asus T100?

The touch screen did not work from the moment I first turned it on (new out of the box). It is running Windows 8.1. I ran the Windows Update to attempt to fix the problem. I also installed all HP updates that relate to the display/graphics. Nothing has worked.

To determine if touch input is available on your computer

Open Pen and Input Devices by tapping the Start button , tapping Control Panel, tapping Mobile PC, and then tapping Pen and Input Devices.

If the Touch tab appears, touch input is available on your computer.

To turn the touch pointer on or off from the taskbar

Use your finger to press and hold the taskbar.

Point to Toolbars, and then tap Touch Pointer.

To turn the touch pointer on or off, tap the Touch Pointer icon on the taskbar.

To turn the touch pointer on or off in Control Panel

Open Pen and Input Devices by tapping the Start button , tapping Control Panel, tapping Mobile PC, and then tapping Pen and Input Devices.

Tap the Touch tab.

Under Touch Pointer, select or clear the Show the touch pointer when I’m interacting with items on the screen check box.

How do I check if my PC has a touchscreen?

Try using your finger to tap a tile on Start. If it’s a touchscreen, the app will open. You can also check your current system settings with your mouse:

Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)

Tap or click PC and devices, and then tap or click PC info.

Under PC, check the Pen and Touch setting, it'll describe what sort of input your screen supports.

If you have a touchscreen, touch input is on by default and can’t be turned off. If you expect your laptop or monitor to respond to touch and it doesn’t, check the manufacture’s website to make sure it supports touch and that you have the correct drivers installed.

Manufacturer says this model has a touch screen. There are many reviews online that talk about it working. For example:

However when I followed your instructions for Windows 8, it says "no pen or touch input is available for this display."

If the PC came without touch screen when it should have I would return it. I guess it's not so easy if you bought it online.

I've been researching...

2. I also found a solution that worked for someone. Try this before the factory reset

the PC has AMD Radeon HD 8180 Graphics, AMD DualCore A4- 1200

I don't know if will work, not sure if it's for touch screen.

Have you already solved it?

PS: You can also contact HP Technical support so that they give you the drive you need to make it work. It must be a missing driver.

Just found this: Troubleshooting Touch Screen Issues in Windows 8 https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05348091 (05/01/2017) I've read a lot of cases of touch screen stopping working after upgrading to win 8.1, and other cases like yours, but have not found any good solution. Just some case that got it working uninstalling-installing the right drivers. According to HP "If the steps above did not restore touch functionality, the computer should be serviced." I guess this is easy if you have bought recently, but what would happen if the issue happened after a few months of using it? People should keep with a PC without touch capability? I think it must be a problem of drivers, don't wanna think it can be related to hardware Smiley Happy
