I purchased a brand new Envy 17 3D and a new copy of Civ V. Civ V freezes over and over on my new I7 notebook. I installed the same copy of Civ V on my desktop, a slower machine, and it works great. The software says it supports windows 7. I then tried using WOW, and wow also freezes up in the same way. The programs freeze sometimes for a minute or more, then it resumes. This document doesnt help with this issue.

Sounds like whats happening is your display driver has stopped responding and has recovered , if you look in the reliability manager in windows you'll probably notice this one in there , I would suggest first to back the video driver up to the original and see if that helps , if not , try updating the bios , oddly this can work too . If that doesn't work , most likely you have a problem with the video chip or cpu and you will have to send it in to have someone who does it daily make that determination . Also , keep those fans clean , the Envy 17 is a stout sleek little machine , but it has a thermal issue due to its hardware overkill .
Kudos?

I currently have the US and the EU support teams looking into this - Im having the same issue when playing WoW on the lowest possible settings - so much so that its impossible for me to play the game using this laptop. I recently installed a new driver which seemed to lessen the frequency of the black outs / lock ups but it has increased the severtiy.
Please let me know if you have managed to find a solution to this problem.
Many Thanks
