I have the same issue with my HDX 18. It now only displys blank screen when I power up. The lights above the keboard come on, but nothing else functions. Leading up to this, the computer would shut down occasionally, especially while I was playing a racing game with heavy graphics rendering.

Re: Hp HDX16 Overheating Issues

I would be very interested in that. I have been nothing but disappointed and frustrated. I have Geek Squad coverage and if they determine the computer to be unfixable, then this is defintiely HP's fault. Normal wear and tear should not cause a computer to have overheating problems and other such problems. I am always on edge when using my computer because I am waiting for the day when my computer overheats and finally dies.

I want either a repair or replacement with a computer of equal or higher value. $1,200 was a LOT of money to pay for a piece of cr*p laptop that stops working after THREE YEARS! I have laptops that function like new after almost 10 years of heavy wear and tear. Explain that one, HP!

Re: Hp HDX16 Overheating Issues

This has just started happening to me over the past two weeks.  With everything I've been reading I'm totally disgusted.  I will NEVER EVER buy another HP Laptop again.

Re: Hp HDX16 Overheating Issues

If this is any consolation to anyone with the HDX series... Geek Squad confirmed that the overheating problem is due to a damaged heatsink and that the entire heatsink, fan assembly, and thermal paste need to be replaced and the bios need to be updated after this replacement. This IS a flaw of the product. Since we're out of warranty, HP has made it clear to me that they will repair any problem for $350. No thanks. That's $350 (+tax) we should not have to spend on top of the $1200 for the initial laptop.

Good luck everyone.

Re: Hp HDX16 Overheating Issues

Thanks to all for the tremendously helpful posts.

My laptop died after trying to run too many programs on a tablecloth => overheating with all of the event logs to prove it.  I ended up wiping the entire system - only to have the BSOD reoccur every 2-15 minutes (except in safe mode when it ran fine).  I still think it's an overheating problem.  So I took everything apart, including taking off the motherboard, to get to the fan and clean everything with compressed air.

Now, after putting everything back together again, nothing happens when I try to start.  Not even a startup to BSOD (I guess those were the good times).  There is a light next to the AC adapeter that lights up, but nothing else when I try to turn on.

Any ideas?  Did I completely kill my motherboard in the process of trying to fix the fan?  I tried taking out the battery and holding the power button for 30-60 s, but nothing there.  Also tried taking out the RAM (which worked for me before), but nothing either.

Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Hp HDX16 Overheating Issues

I also have the same issues, machine was  overheating six months after purchase, and would shut itself off..... I sent back to HP it came back "repaired" a month later, but had the same issues intermittently , it now has no backlit LCD display at all and will only work plugged into an external monitor...... having read all the previous posts it is clearly a design fault and Im deffinatly convinced that HP are well aware of it...................... we should all join together and take action to be offered a solution by HP for a faulty product that at over €1000 needs to last longer than 2 years......

Re: Hp HDX16 Overheating Issues

I bought my laptop HP HDX 16 (T9400, Geforce 9600). At first, it was well, after a haft year, i got it to the HP ,because, it was so hot that the hard disk was died.  They replaced another one for me. And the problem overheating has been continued with me until now. ...  I don't know how to do, just final decision, buy another one,and perhaps not HP..., if i hear the problem overheating like that...
