Problem with FPS

Hello all, i own the hp pavilion dv7-2140ev moonlight laptop

I used to play games like pes11 , warcraft 3 , wow , guitar hero full graphics like no problem,

i installed dota2 ( it s a new game still in beta).

At lobby my fps are round 200+ but when the game starts my fps drops very much starting from 60 and sometimes drops to 20 maybe less and as a result i have spikes and i see a fast powerpoint presentation...

the recommended characteristics for the game are lower than my specifications

they are like this: DotA 2 Recommended System Requirements:

    * OS: Windows® 7 / Vista / Vista64 / XP
    * Processor: Intel core 2 duo 2.4GHz
    * Memory: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
    * Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with Shader model 3.0. NVidia 7600, ATI X1600 or better
    * Hard Drive: At least 2.5 GB of free space
    * Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card

and i have this:

OS: win7

Processor: intel quad core 2.9

memory 4GB win 7 64b

graphics : radeon 4650 hd 1GB

hdd: enough

sound : fine

so why i have this problem, i m now downloading the latest graphics driver, i used some programs to close every other unuseful aplication during gameplay but it s not improved... some friends say i need better graphics card. i dont think so , it s 1 GB it s enough, for god sake xD

need opinions , thanks in advance!

Re: Problem with FPS

Aw bro, first problem is that you have a Radeon. Awful! (I have one on my laptop too). Anyways, because its a beta, there might be compatibility issues with your video card.

Re: Problem with FPS

Just because it's a radeon doesn't mean it sucks. It depends specifically on your graphics card unit, not brand. I have an AMD 6770M which can run starcraft 2 maxed and bf3 comfortably.

Re: Problem with FPS

First of all, whether you have  1GB/512mb/256mb of vga memory doesnt mean much in terms of performance, it all depends on your specific gpu unit whether its a 5650M, 6570M, etc. In your case your gpu does seem to be able to run most older games okay. Measuring fps in lobbies doesnt mean much either since there's hardly anything there for your gpu to render. You say you begin with 60fps and then drop to about 20fps midgame, presumably when the action is getting most hot. You could perhaps try lowering your graphical settings a bit or maybe your resolution. Alternatively the problem may also lie with your internet connection.
