CPU upgrade on HP ProBook 4730s

Good day.

As stated in the title I am interested in upgrading my CPU (Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU B940 @ 2.00GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz) but I'm not sure if it's possible or with which processor I can actually replace it.

I tried searching the forums for a little bit but the information provided seems a bit alien to me.

Hope you can spare some time to help me out.

You can upgrade to any processor listed on page 6.

I would also visit the support and driver page and read all the BIOS release notes under the BIOS downloads to see if a BIOS update is needed to install one of the processors you may be interested in installing.

It does not appear that there are different motherboards, heat sinks or fans required. Look at the illustrated parts list in chapter 3 of the service manual.

Whoa I didn't expect a reply this soon.

Thank you for the information, now it's up to me to decide if it's worth losing warrany so I can play games with more fps.

An extra question.

So lets say I changed the CPU and my laptop  after a month of two dies for some reason.

Is it possible for me to put in the old CPU and still have the warranty?

You're very welcome.

Installing a processor will definitely void the warranty.

Basically, removing any Torx screw voids the warranty.

Removing any Phlips screw does not.

I would say that if you are good enough to leave absolutely no trace that you ever had a different processor in there, you may be able to get away with it.

I don't know if that is possible though.

Hi!

We have performed an upgrade from I3-2310M to I7-2670QM and some of the programmes , eg. CPU-Z , coretemp, everest recognize the quadcore processor as if it were dualcore processor.

We have the latest version of bios .

We would like you to tell us if there is any settings or something else to do in this situation?

We have got the result P786 in the 3dmark 11programme in case this can be of any help to you.
