My newer HP Envy has been shutting down regularly also...and I never move it...so the power cord problem can't be the source of the problem. I've changed the power setting to those recommended so we'll see what happens. If that doesn't solve the problem, I'll return the computer and get another one!

Sorry HP - but you blew it.  My Envy has been doing the same thing - along with a number of my co-workers.  We just purchased a bunch of Lenovo laptops.

Whether this has been a software or hardware problem doesn't matter.  After spending too much down time to solve YOUR problem, we just have moved on.

Too bad for you.

mine is 13 months old but has been doing the same thing.  I tried everyhing in your posted link to the letter and it still randomly shuts down.  Sometimes all i do is move it and it shuts down. I already paid a $150 to best buy support to simply reseat battery.  My third HP and i was hoping this much more expensive one would last 2 years.  Looks like i have now been fooled three times.  Perhaps it is fiinally time for a Mac.  Anyone have  a recommendation for a reputable laptop company.  It seems HP was good a decade ago but it has gone down hill fast.

I bought a HP Envy from **bleep** Smith In December 2015. It just randomly switched off. It is plugged into power. First time it has done it, but looks like it is a thing with this hardware. I use it for my business so I hope it isn't going to become a regular thing or I will have to sue.
