My 5 years old Pavilion 6000 has lately started to sound very strange. It seems like the HDD will crash.
Any experience with the same issue.
My main question is if so,
- Can I change the HDD by my self ?
- Will that solve the issue ?
- Which HDD type should I buy?
Appreciate any help!

It is relatively easy to replace the hard drive yourself. In addition to the hard drive you will also need the recovery disks to reinstall the operating system.
Please let us know the full model number of your notebook so we can send you the link to the service manual and let you know what hard drive you need.
Post the product number that is found on the label with the serial number. Do not post your serial number.

I have the same problem. My HDD crashed and I need to replace it with a new one. I have two questions. The first is can I replace the HHD with a different HHD (larger capacity, different brand) or do I need to replace it with the original HHD. Second, how do I get a Recovery Disk and is the disk necessary?
Your help in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can replace it with any quality model hard drive.
Below is the link to the service manual which lists what drives came with the PC and it will be helpful for the removal and replacement process.
You may be able to install up to a 500 GB SATA II 5400 RPM HDD.
I might go on the conservative side, and get a 250 GB but that is up to you.
You can see if HP still has recovery disks for your model by following the instructions at the link below.
If HP doesn't have any, you will have to purchase a new operating system.

Be sure to save the connector and bracket from your old drive! It's a little black plastic piece that fts on the end of the hard drive for the DV6000. You will need it for the new drive. It looks like this

You're very welcome.
No, it doesn't, but if you use XP, you will need to read this guidance at the link below in order to install it.
Below is the link to your notebook's support and driver page where you can find the drivers you need.
And do heed DJ's note about saving the connector, caddy and screws from your old HDD. You will need all of the above to install a new bare drive.

Hi, I have a problem with HP DV6003ea. I've bought a HDD replacement for it - HGST Z5K500-500 500GB 5400RPM. But it doesn't work in it. HDD is recognized as 32GB when I run Windows XP setup. I tried to update firmware to the latest (F.43) and after that it recognizes even smaller size - 8Gb. What could be the problem?
