Laptop fan occasionally goes full speed

[ Edited ]
Product Name: HP ENVY 15-k202nl
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop fan occasionally goes full speed, when I'm doing "heavy" things or not. It goes randomly full speed and runs unconstantly, it goes high and low randomly doing some weird "buzz" noises when switching from high to low and viceversa. It has just been a year since a I have it and I don't think it has always done this. What could it be?

Thanks in advance

Re: Laptop fan occasionally goes full speed

Hi,

You could try updating BIOS to this latest version available in your HP support page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/HP-ENVY-15-Notebook-PC-series/7527530/mode...

Read this before updating: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Any overheating or warm air through vents?

Regards

Visruth

Re: Laptop fan occasionally goes full speed

Thank you answering.

The BIOS is up to date. Updated through HP Support Assistant.

The air when this happens is occasionally warm, but not necessarily. I checked with CoreTemp if there were any trouble with overheating but nothing irregular.

May be you could try to reload BIOS to default settings: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00034791

Re: Laptop fan occasionally goes full speed

Try testing hardware, do system testing from system diagnostics UEFI by tapping f2 key as soon as you power on laptop.

It'll take few hours.

Re: Laptop fan occasionally goes full speed

The only options availble are: "Memory Test" and "Hard Drive Check", should I run them?

Download and install HP PC Hardware Diagnostics from here: http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/campaigns/hpsupportassistant/pc-diags.html?jumpid=va_r602_uk/en/any/pps/pl_...

Restart system. Tap F2 key as soon as you power on laptop. Now see if System Testing menu comes up along with others.

Sorry for not answering but I've been on a trip. I'm running the test right now and I'll post the results as soon as it completes.
