Hmm guess it's time to migrate from HP permanently. I would have loved to have been able to use that M.2 port, as it's one of the selling points from the service manual. I guess all it would take is someone changing a bios parameter and resaving the image to provide the M.2 enabled access, but since this is beyond me, not sure where to go. Hell I'd pay for the unlocked M.2 port as i have already expended money on a drive.

Thanks for your hard work soundprizm

so no one hasn't had any success with this? :Crying:

Unfortunately, no... at least not to my knowledge.

has anyone had any succesful installation on this model?

I've successfully installed both an M.2 SSD and a 2.5" SSD in my Envy 17t, but it's an Envy 17t-n000, and I believe you guys are referring to a different model that you're encountering difficulty with.

I actually use my M.2 SSD as my Windows boot drive.

No one has gotten this to work.  I ended up returning the computer and getting the n100 model.  It has a different motherboard and ships with various m.2 SSD drives install from the factory.

So, were you able to successfully install an M.2 SSD in your n100?

If you're ready to give up on the M.2 SSD, and switch to SATA SSD without giving up your HDD, you may want to try this method. You might as well since it's only a SATA M.2 slot anyway, and since HP shipped out mine, and many other's, with the M.2 port disabled with NO viable way to enable it.

Here is the Cable and Bracket ($44.75):

Also, at the bottom of that page there is the link to the DVD drive replacement caddy if you'd rather do that , I can't say for sure that it works though ($20.85).

There are also "Universal" ones on Amazon for much cheaper, but again... I don't know if they work.

Here is a YouTube video of how it installs:

This is the SSD I returned (I purchased for $185 it went down so win-win):

This is the SSD I purchased (I got it for $150 it has gone up by $5):

Even with this method it still did NOT go smoothly... I tried cloning it with the Samsung Data Migration program and it said it worked the first time, but then would not boot. I tried startup repair on it and nothing. I tried re-cloning it using the Samsung Data Migration and it failed. At that point I was thinking I might have a bad SSD, which would have been sad. And I will just say this is the first time I have ever had the Samsung Data Migration fail to work and I've used it at least 10 times. But lastly, I tried booting to Partition Wizard (the free version) so I would be doing the clone outside of the OS and it worked great. That even allowed me to delete the recovery partition off the SSD, which was nice.

Partition Wizard:

I'm down to 11 second boot times now. They weren't bad before the SSD though, Between 31-40 seconds.

I hope this helps.

I ordered the second drive caddy for my 17t-n000 and installed a new drive. Everything is up and running but I intermittenly lose the 2nd drive.  Has this happed to you yet?

HP Recommended

Same happened to me.

Don't know exactly why it happened, but switching the disks from place solved the problem
