HP Support Assistant says that BIOS Update version F78 is available but fails on install. I manually downloaded the BIOS Update (SP75294) and ran that but it says BIOS update is blocked (in Windows) and only gives me the option to create a USB recovery drive or copy the files to another location. I created the recovery thumb drive and followed the site instructions for updating the BIOS via the HP boot setup utility but it says to use the bin file that matches the System Board ID. Unfortunately the System Board ID on this laptop is 8093 and the only bin files are:
- 08092.bin
- 0809B.bin
- 080A0.bin
- 080A9.bin
Anyone happen to know which of these files is the correct bin file (if any)?
Thanks in advance.

Hello @desk_jedi
Thank you for the reply!
Try downloading the new revision that was uploaded just yesterday and create the media like indicated in the BIOS restoration document, that would the second safest way to update the BIOS. The safest way is to let the BIOS update take place on it's own through the HP Support Assistant, which may or may not have the new revision yet like the site.
I hope this information has been helpful!

Hello @desk_jedi,
Thank you for visiting the HP Forums!
I came across your post and understand the BIOS on your HP Pavilion 15-ab157nr is not updating correctly.
Is the computer experiencing either of the issues this BIOS version claims to fix? If not, an incorrect BIOS installation can have unforgiving outcomes.
Software and driver results for: HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab157nr (ENERGY STAR)
If you wish to continue with the BIOS update, there is a new revision that was uploaded to the site today, use the link above and the BIOS restoration document.

The system is on version 43 and not exhibiting any of the symptoms either version 77 or 78 claim to fix. However previous experience with Pavilion laptops has conditioned me to keeping the BIOS updated. I am well aware of how unforgiving installing an incorrect BIOS can be hence my asking for assistance rather than just selecting one of the bin files above and hoping for the best.

The latest update worked like a champ. Still noticed that an 08093.bin file isn't included so I'm still not sure which file I would use if I had to update (or recover) manually but the updated BIOS revision successfully installed directly from the download so we're good for now. Thanks!
