HP ENVY - 15-as103np
Linux

Hi,

I've recently bough the specified HP Envy:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-15-as100-notebook-pc/12499192/document/c05265879

The Standard memory is 8 GB DDR4-2133 SDRAM (2 x 4 GB) and I would like to upgrade to 16GB (2 x 8 GB).

Are this a good fit?:

https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Technology-HyperX-2133MHz-HX421S13IB/dp/B014R8JPYW

I believe this supports 16GB but my main issue is to open the laptop.

I've found tons of videos for similar models but not for this one, showing how to open and replace the memory / ssd.

I was able to unscrew all the screws (at leas I think so) with a torx screw driver (5) but I was unable to open even with a plastic screw driver so I didn't forced it (am I missing something here?), is there any hidden screws?

This is an excelent notebook, but 16gb is way better for my development use.

Does anyone knows how to help me or posting some videos? (this is the first laptop I cannot open at first try :P)

One more thing, since it has a standart 256 M2 SSD I believe I can replace it but I found some documentation telling that there's space to add a non M2 SSD (full size), is this possible in this model?

Thank you

Hi,

Check out this service manual:

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05219344

The ssd m2 nvme will be a lot faster than any normal 2.5" ssd so that is the best choice.

Yes you can upgrade to 16GB memory.

Yes you can add a full size HDD.

@iomare the laptop already has a 256GB M.2

@MiguelGuilherme Does the videos help with removing the Base enclosure???

@REO51ST I wasn't sure if I would find any hidden screws bellow the rear rubber and I was affraid to remove it.

But to anwser you, yes, this looks my model, at least the base enclosure.

Regarding a full sized ssd, so you are saying I can keep my 256 M2 and add an additional full sized SSD / HDD to the existing empty spot (do you know if it contains the disk drive brackets and cable adapter inside?)

Thank you for your help

@MiguelGuilherme

In the parts breakdown look at #25  and  #26 on page 20.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05219344

But I am still not 100% sure you can just install any SSD go to Disk Management, partition and format the drive and thats it???

I would not want you to buy a drive that will not work.

@MiguelGuilherme if you live in the US I can send you a 256GB SSD for you to try for free.

But you would still need to buy #25  and  #26.

Thank you once again @REO51STUnfortunately I leave in Portugal but you helped me a lot.

I'll try to grab those components in HP Europe I guess, but at least I can upgrade the memory asap.
I've another 256GB SSD in other laptop that were replaced, so after I get those components I should be able to test if everything works and then try to buy a bigger SSD.

Thanks for all your help, you saved me a lot of trouble.
