I can't charge my computer when I'm using it. I can still charge it while it is in sleep mode though.

Welcome to HP Forums, this is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out.

As I understand the battery only charges when the computer is in a sleep mode and here's what I suggest:

perform a hard reset on a computer with a sealed or non-removable battery, use the following steps:

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.

  3. Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.

  4. Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.

Update the BIOS on your computer: (for details click here)

Step 1: Finding the current BIOS version number

Step 2: Finding the processor type

Step 3: Finding and downloading BIOS updates

Step 4: Installing the BIOS update
