HP 15 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP 15 Notebook PC. (Product number & serial # available if needed.) It is out of warranty, I’ve will have owned it for 2 years in June.

The fan makes a loud buzzing noise, not all of the time, but enough that it’s extremely annoying, and it is getting louder. I have to tap the left side of the computer to make the buzzing stop, but that isn’t always working any more. Sometimes it will be quiet for a day or more, other times I can’t get it to shut up without powering down the computer. It will start right back up when I re-start though.

I have a pretty dusty house with pets, and the notebook is almost 2 years old, so I imagine I need to open it up and clean it out. I want to replace the fan. I figure if I’m going to go through the hassle of opening the machine to clean it, I might as well replace the fan at the same time in case cleaning doesn't stop the noise. I understand the fans are not very expensive.

Here’s the problem. I cannot find the part number for the fan. I tried using the HP PartSurfer, but it doesn’t recognize my machine. Not by Product name, Product Number or Serial Number.

I also tried going to the HP Parts Store, but there is something wrong there. I cannot access the site. I get “Secure Connection Failed” on Firefox, “This page can’t be displayed” on Internet Explorer 11; and “Hmm, we can't reach this page” on Edge.

I know I can get a fan on Ebay or another site, but I want to be sure I am ordering the right fan so I don’t have any problems installing it.

Any suggestions? The noise is driving me insane!

Hi,

Your notebook is Configure to order machine, means you can select the hardware components while making the purchase.

One other question. I see the heat sink is a separate part and there are 6 different part numbers. (757602-001, 766502-001, 766567-001, 757603-001, 766504-001, 766503-001)

If I should accidentally damage the one currently in the machine, which number should I order?

Excellent! Thanks for your help!

On further research, I don't think I will need that. I'm not planning on doing anything with the processor. But good to know if i should.

Thanks again!

I have a similar problem, but the methods Visruth used previously to solve the problem with the HP 15 don't work here.

I have a HP Pavilion DV7 laptop, to be precise a dv7-4110eg.   The serial number s CNF1024LT9, which properly maps to Product Number LB826EA#ABD.   But PartSurfer shows only about 10 parts, including a power supply, and some which don't have decriptions, and are not orderable.  I don't care if they're not orderable -- I just need to know what the part number is.

Looking in the repair manual doesn't really help.  There are actually two such manuals, one from 2009 and one from 2011.  The manual from 2009 talks about Core Duo processors, and has two different fans possible, depending on whether the graphics subsystem has UMA memory or not.  This is the first manual I got -- I didn't know which applied, so I ordered both.   Then I looked at the specs for this laptop, found it had an i5 processor, and therefore the manual 2011 applies.   This manual mentions three parts that could apply to Intel processors,  653627-001, 653628-001 or 640903-001.  I can't order every part in sight in anticipation -- is there any way that I could find out through HP PartSurfer or some other database?

Knowing the owner of this laptop, I doubt it is a configure-to-order model.

Thanks for your help.
