HP OMEN 15-ax010nd
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Dear forum,

This will be my first and hopefully not my last message on this forum. I know a thing about computers, but the question I have is one I cannot solve on my own.

I have an HP OMEN 15" for a few months now and I want to upgrade the RAM and SSD.

I've found out there is a Samsung M2 SSD inside, the MZNTY128HDHP to be precise.

The RAM modules are 2 times DDR4 2400MHz. Only 2 slots available.

1: Does this notebook support a NVMe M2 SSD? Or is it just a SATA interface?

2: What is the maximum supported clockspeed of the RAM modules?

At the moment I am in love with the Samsung 960 EVO 250GB M2 NVMe SSD, but I need to know if it will be fully supported.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Manual: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05357609

1. Yes it does, Page 5 . It support both form factor (of M.2 2280 SSD) in same slot. Page 41

Yes Samsung EVO 960 should be compatible

2. Your notebook came with 6th gen Intel core processor. 2133MHz DDR4 1.2V

Get exact same configuration, speed, voltage modules as given in manual.

Page 4, 5: max 16gb (two 8gb sticks)

Crucial, Samsung, Hynix are good brands.

1. I see the notebook (GTX960M)  will be able to accept NVMe SSD's, according to the following:

2. And that's what I also found out, but the RAM in my notebook is 2400MHz, so the "2133MHz DDR 1.2V" is just a standard spec and doesn't say anything about the support of faster RAM. Strange thing is that according to this table, it shouldn't be supported.

Thanks for your manuals which contain the specsheets.

And according to the specific pages you mentioned, the max. speed for RAM will be 2133MHz for 6th gen Intel CPU's and NVMe will be fully supported.

Thanks!

You're welcome.

I can only think that 2400MHz module may down clock to 2133MHz in your notebook.
