Hi, I am going to undergo a SSD upgrade on my laptop. I was wondering if my model, a 17-k204tx has a m.2 slot on the motherboard, and if so, what size m.2 cards will it accept? Or do I have to buy a standard 2.5" drive instead?

Yes it has an M.2 slot. Here is the Service Manual:

This is not easy to get to. We have had some users post pictures and if I recall correctly it is not necessary to remove and flip over the motherboard but that is what the manual is showing. The M.2 it uses is the SATA variety size 2280. 

 

See p. 67 of the Manual. This video is also relevant:
