Hello,
more precise guide for your unit is on http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03277661 page 33 and 36
Your unit is equipped from production with 2x 2GB memory so to upgrade you will need to remove at least one module and replace with 4GB one. You can use : 6144MB (2048MB x 1 + 4096MB x 1) or 8192MB (4096MB x 2)
HP partnumber for 4GB module is 639737-800, please consult with HP support or as your unit is our of warranty look for generic4GB PC3 12800 1600Mhz module.

Hello
You own an HP Pavilion g6-2002au notebook. Unfortunately you happened to chose a notebook that is not so simple to upgrade.
You will have to either contact an online memory vendor and ask them for help finding a guaranteed compatible 8GB upgrade or purchase the upgrade from HP.
