The good news:  There are Windows 10 HP Drivers for your system.  (It is not the case for everyone.)

If the system has been migrated to Windows 10 (as opposed to the computer coming with W10 installed), then be sure you have installed the Windows 10 HP Drivers, including the Chipset driver.

There is a BIOS update for your system -- do not install that unless you have your computer completely backed up, particularly any critical files.  Do not update the BIOS unless / until absolutely necessary.  Why hesitate?  BIOS updates can be very beneficial -- or they can become deadly and make your computer into a large, flat paper weight.

Validity Sensor Driver:

File name: sp63418.exe

Release details

Released: Sep 30, 2013

Version 4.5.228.0 Rev.

Series 8 HP SimplePass:

Windows 10 provides on-board fingerprint logon software -- this fingerprint software must be enabled and working before adding HP SimplePass.

Windows 10 >   Settings > Account > Sign-in Options > PIN number >> PIN assignment is mandatory

Regardless of whether you intend to use SimplePass (or other third party security software), there are prerequisites for setting and using the Native Windows fingerprint logon.  The system recognizes the Windows Logon software as “primary” and requires that the Windows fingerprint logon be set up and functional.

See:

Add or Remove Fingerprint logon - Windows 10

Once (After) you have enabled / set-up the Windows 10 fingerprint logon, set up and install the Series 8 HP SimplePass environment.

General Rules / Suggestions:

  • "Other" HP Drivers must be installed and Windows Updates should be current within about a week
  • You might need to UPDATE the BIOS - do not do this unless you have EVERYTHING backed up; BIOS updates carry a modicum of risk, even when you do EVERYTHING correctly.  Never let HPSA update your BIOS.
  • Create a Restore Point before making changes (strongly recommended)
  • Have a known, tested password that you can use to log into the computer should HP SimplePass fail
  • Install / Reinstall Driver first
  • Restart / Reboot computer and log in
  • Install / Update / Reinstall HP SimplePass next
  • Restart / Reboot computer and log in

Heed the comments in the Dragon document:

  • Ensure your Windows Updates AND your HP Drivers current.  Nothing messes with SimplePass quite like a cranky, outdated system
  • Create a Restore Point before making changes to your computer
  • KNOW your Windows Password
  • When HP SimplePass is working -- EXPORT your websites / passwords
  • Optional:  Create a "Safe-House" account you can use to log into your computer if your main account goes sideways (does not work)
