hp 15-1233wm memory upgrade

Can I upgrade the hp 15-1233wm to 8GB of memory?

Or, are there any other upgrade options that will help performance?

Here's the specs:

Unfortunately the specs and the manual do not agree.

Memory Two SODIMM non-customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots (Core i3 processors) DDR3L-1600 MHz dual channel support (DDR3L-1600 dual channel support) One SODIMM non-customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slot (Pentium, Celeron processors) DDR3L-1333 MHz dual channel support (DDR3L-1600 downgraded to DDR3L-1333) Supports up to 4 GB max system memory (DDR3L-1600 MHz module) Supports the following system RAM conƭgurations ● 8192 MB (8192 MB×1 or 4096 MB×2)

So there is one (1) memory slot but you can install an 8 gig module in it. See p. 30 for instructions. 

The processor is soldered to the motherboard which rules out that upgrade. You could install a solid state drive in place of the mechanical hard drive. That takes a bit more surgery on the laptop, but would be the single most productive upgrade. It might make the laptop somewhat useable despite the very limited processor power. So, in your opinion can an end user change the existing 4 GB module out for the a new 8 GB module?

Not just my opinion. Although the Manual is not 100% clear, it says a 1 x 8 gig configuration is supported. The chipset can handle 8 gig modules so I say yes you can put in a single 8 gig module.
