Recent purchase of notebook

HP stream 13 win. 10) 32 gb of storage.I leave this at my gaughters home when we visit so i can check e mail  &do some banking etc when out of town.

No problem first few months untill recently downloading automatic Win.updates.About halfway tru a cumulative update ,message not enough space fof update.Add exteral (i guess either a SD card or flash drive )to one of the ports.Question is that updates are downdoaded to the C drive.If using a SD card Or Flash they are then downloaded to them and not to the main or C drive.  What can i do or even stop downloads of auto.Win. updates to avoid this

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

If you insert an SD card, you should be able to use that as working space for Windows Updates.

MS no longer provides the Update options we had with previous OSs.  However, if you set your network connections to "metered", that will prevent AUTOMATIC downloading and updating:  https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/35656-ethernet-connection-set-metered-unmetered-windows-10-a.htm...

Also, here are some things you can do to recovery some of the disk space used by previous Windows Updates:

Hi,

Welcome to HP forums!

Follow option 3, 4, 5 in this tutorial to avoid automatic updates: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8013-windows-update-automatic-updates-enable-disable-windows-10-...

Now to free up space, follow option 1 in this: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3012-disk-cleanup-open-use-windows-10-a.html

Uninstall unnecessary softwares through control panel.

In a pretty economical notebook, definitely you're going to sacrifice many things, one of them being storage. It's a pity that companies are releasing products like these eventhough knowing it would cause issues like this.
