Hi,
You mean motherboard right?
What is the exact model name, product number of your laptop? I'll be able to give you list of compatible boards from Manual then.
https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00033108
We need the HP part number of the board you want to replace old one with, and it is completely numerical like 000000-000.

Visruth

Part No: 680569-001
Description: MotherBoard DISCRETE HM76 7670/1G
Part No: 680569-501
Description: MOTHERBOARD DISCRETE HM76 7670/1G W8STD
Your laptop came with Windows 7, so definitely there is no Windows 8 activation key embedded in board BIOS chip for your model from factory.
I'm not sure why you're seeing xxxxxx-501 instead of xxxxxx-001.
680569-001 is the one you need.
