Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I JUST THOUGHT OF UPGRADING MY RAM FROM DEFAULT 3GB TO 6GB, BY ADDING 4GB DDR2 RAM IN THE PLACE OF 1GB RAM, MAKING THE CUMULATIVE OF 6GB RAM FOR THE SYSTEM.

I WENT THROUGH MY HP PRODUCT PAGE, IT SAYS MY SYSTEM SUPPORTS UPTO 8GB, THAT IS 4+4

SOME PEOPLE SAY, CORE2DUO WONT SUPPORT.   MINE IS CORE2DUO T6400

PLS ADVISE,  IF NO, WOULD REQUEST  YOU TO  ELOBARATE  WITH TECHNICAL REASONS

THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi,

From the  Maintenance and Service Guide  your machine has

2 customer-accessible/upgradable memory module slots
Supports dual-channel memory
Supports up to 8 GB of system RAM PC2-6400, 800-MHz, DDR2
Supports the following configurations:
■ 8192-MB total system memory (4096 × 2, dual-channel)
■ 4096-MB total system memory (2048 × 2, dual-channel)
■ 3072-MB total system memory (2048 + 1024)
■ 2048-MB total system memory (1024 × 2, dual-channel)
■ 2048-MB total system memory (2048 × 1)
■ 1024-MB total system memory (1024 × 1)

More manuals:

    http://support.hp.com/emea_middle_east-en/product/HP-Pavilion-dv3-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/3...

But it runs 32 bit Operating system (OS) now, no point to upgrade to anything over 4GB in total. 32 bit OS won't address RAM above 4GB.

Regards.

Also 4 gig modules of DDR2 laptop memory cost about $60-70 each...too expensive for an older machine.
