A Pavillion dv9210us just died

After several months having issues with my Pavillion dv9210us, it just wont turn on.

It started having problems with the wireless card (about 3 months ago), the laptop had to be hot in order for it to start working otherwise the laptop wont recognize it (erm ... wtf, like if it was a car or something). Then, bout one month ago the laptop started having problems whenever I tried to turn it on (from hibernate or shutdown).It rebooted several times w/ black screen before it could boot normally. And now it will just reboot and reboot several times showing nothing until it gives up (an average of 4 reboots). I was able to turn it on once now but had black screen and couldn't see a thing. It is 2 1/2 years old w/ no warranty... Is there anything I could do? other people having these problems? should I call HP support -.-;?  meh...

Hi,

first step: reseat your memory module(s). second step: remove the battery and unplug the ac adapter and thenpress and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.

Ya I have done that before and nothing.

Forgot to mention ... I sent it about 1 year ago to HP, two times and they replaced MB and HDD cuz of a similar problem. That time the laptop wouldn't do a thing when pressing the power button and there was a warranty extention...

If you have noticed problems with you laptop that were obviously affected by heat then it's most definatley hardware related and most likely a flakey motherboard.  Search ebay for a replacement.  HP will be very expensive.

Hi,

That sounds grim.

Have you tried removing the hard disk to see if it will try to start? If it starts up the BIOS will whine (heheh) but then you will know that the problem is a dead hard disk.

If you are confident enough...there is a CMOS battery inside the laptop (it is not easy to get to it) disconnecting it should clear the CMOS. It is a long shot.

I removed the HDD and same problem happened. I'll try the CMOS battery thing... I'm not going to pay a $300 repair for a comp that worth $400 so I'm ok trying stuff like that. heck, I'm studying computer engineering ... why not. XD

Hi,

Yep. Good practice for Engineering skills. Go to insidemylaptop.com and also try to source the Maintenance Service manual. Both of those are great sources for the sequential disassembly required to get to the battery and actually put the laptop back together in working order.  

Jewelers philips screwdriver and a plastic tray for screws (they are quite small and easily lost)  and lots of patience and you should be good to go.

Exact same problem here.

Stripped unit to guts and my theory is that piss poor design.

There is a little circuit board to the top left of computer, to the right of the left hinge. Mine is very loose from factory, I figure it should be a temp sensor of sort.

The fan pulls air in through bottom of machine and blows out the back through fins. Which so conveniently collect and hold the dust till it clogs. Thus no cool air, thus loose temp sensor, implies what looks to be a cooked video chip under the coolant line.

That's what I've found, how about you?
