While recently installing a RAM upgrade on my dv7-1267cl, I somehow broke the plastic clip on the "outside" or second RAM slot. Then the rest of the clip simply fell off. As a result, that slot will not retain a SO-DIMM properly, leading to a power-up failure until the SO-DIMM is completely removed. Incidentally, I've replaced RAM countless times over the years, and this is the only problem I've ever had, other than DOA RAM, and I'm unsure how I managed to break the clip. Once the RAM was installed, I slowly realized what the problem was.
Now I am running 4GB on the inside or first slot, but I'd prefer to use the second 4GB SO-DIMM. Does anyone know if there any way to repair the outside clips? If so, is it a reasonable undertaking or something that should be performed by an authorized service center.
The dv7-1267cl has not been particularly reliable. Even before the recent problem with the RAM clip, I have had a number of problem with freezes and blue screens, for example, but not quite so many as to make me give up on the computer. However, I'm not inclined to spend much money to fix it. The additional RAM would have been nice, but isn't critical.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have never seen anyone repair a RAM clip other than by replacing the motherboard. It is one of those very frustrating and annoying things like breaking the keyboard zif connector. Sorry. I would just continue to run it on 4 gigs in one slot.

Huffer, thanks for your answer. Before accepting your probably correct answer as the solution, I added some more tags and will just let this post sit for awhile -- just in case. I'm guessing that many others have shared the problem, even without the "good luck" of having a remaining usable slot. Information about this issue is out there on various forums, almost all of it quite gloomy, but perhaps your answer here will be the succinct response that saves other users from needing to search further.
