Armada E500 HDD Size options.

Hi all. I have an old Armada E500 laptop that is my tertiary machine, and a few days ago the hard disk drive had an epic fail. Now, I still enjoy using this laptop to run old software and read on the move, so I wish to replace the HDD. My questions are thus: How big (in terms of capacity) a HDD will the motherboard and/or BIOS recognise? And can this be increased through flashing the BIOS?
