Battery EXPLODED the other day

I have an ENVY 15 Laptop I purchased in July of 2010. About a month ago while I was using the laptop i suddenly heard a pop, the laptop jumped a few inches in the air, I then heard hissing, and smelled smoke. I promptly dove under the desk and unplugged it and then flipped it over and struggled to get the now exploded battery unjammed and out of the computer. After finally succeeding by prying it out with a screwdriver and check the damage it was clear the battery literally exploded. I called HP but they told me that I was just outside of my warranty but for $450 i could send the laptop to them and they could repair it. I pointed out that was quite a bit of money and was given the option of $170 for a new battery. I have never been so disgusted in my life. I have multiple HP computers and laptops and have received, in the mail, more then one letter calling for a recall for defective batteries. My laptop battery explodes, but no warranty and no recall. This is definetly my last HP.

Re: Battery EXPLODED the other day

Hi,

Sorry to know that. Just bad luck I think. Any product from any vendor including airplan, they need statistics to be able to recall.

Just my 2 cents

Regards,

Re: Battery EXPLODED the other day

I had the exact thing just happen to me too, purchased an Envy15 in November 2009. I heard a small pop so I picked up my laptop then a larger pop, the metal plate on the outside of the battery delaminated from the glue and battery looked like it had a tumor sticking out of the plastic. Luckily the plastic seal did not crack so I had no damaging explosion like you and was able to remove by hand.

There is a number on the plate: GT: 6AVDA01BJY149J

Product number: 578833-001
